CIRCUS lessons will be on offer during a street festival on Bank Holiday weekend.

Durham Streets Summer Festival returns next weekend (August 29-31), with three days of free entertainment across two venues – Durham City and Barnard Castle.

The festival begins in Durham on the Saturday and Sunday, with events in the Market Place, Millennium Place and on Elvet and Framwelgate Bridges.

On Bank Holiday Monday (August 31), the focus switches to Scar Top at Barnard Castle, where there will be various street performers and Let’s Circus lessons in unicycling, plate-spinning and toothbrush twiddling.

Councillor Neil Foster, Durham County Council’s cabinet member for culture, said: “There will be lots of wacky, weird and wonderful performances to enjoy during this year’s Streets festival but this year we’re also giving people the chance to have a go themselves by taking part in our circus school in Barnard Castle.

“Learn to juggle like Brucie, stand on your hands like the Head First Acrobats or clown around like Adorkable Derek and Herbie Treehead – you never know, you could discover a hidden talent.”
