TIME is running out to see Durham’s Magna Carta.

Durham Cathedral’s unique 1216 edition of Magna Carta is on public display for the first time in its 799-year history to mark the 800th anniversary of the sealing of the original agreement between King John and his rebellious barons in 1215.

A three-month exhibition exploring 800 years of rebellion and civil unrest taking Magna Carta at its starting point, and featuring Durham’s treasure as its centrepiece, is ongoing at Durham University’s Palace Green Library.

In its first two months, it has attracted more than 15,000 visitors from 22 countries across the globe. In all, 17,000 tickets have been sold to date.

There is now one month until the attraction closes on Monday, August 31 and tickets for timed entry are still available to buy.

Exhibition curator Emma Hamlett said: “The visitor feedback about the Magna Carta exhibition and events has been fantastic.

“We expect the last month of the exhibition to be very busy so would encourage people to book tickets in advance.”

As well as the exhibition, there have been lectures, talks, workshops and craft events. Free family activities take place daily from 1pm to 3pm and a medieval weekend is planned for August 8 and 9.

Tickets for Magna Carta and the Changing Face of Revolt cost £7.50 for adults, £6.50 for children aged five to 16 and concessions and are free for under fives. To book, call 0844-844-0444 or visit ticketmaster.co.uk/magna_carta_2015.
