A THREE-day folk festival is just a fortnight away (August 13-15).

The Folkworks Durham Gathering will take place in Durham from August 13 to 15, showcasing the talents of traditional and folk musicians teaching at the Folkworks Summer Schools which take place in the city in the preceding week.

The first event is Tea for Two!, a tea-time concert featuring three duos: fiddle player Sam Sweeney and piano accordionist and clog dancer Hannah James; fiddle player Miranda Rutter and Anglo concertina maestro, guitarist and singer Rob Harbron; and Kevin Lees and Dave Wood on fiddle and guitar.

The concert is planned for Thursday, August 13 at 5.30pm.

Later that evening, at 8pm, there will be a concert inspired by the ongoing Magna Carta exhibition featuring BBC Radio 2’s Folk Singer of the Year Nancy Kerr, Bella Hardy, Karine Polwart and more.

On the Friday, students from the Folkworks Summer School will give a concert at 2pm and Jim Molyneux, who plays the piano accordion, and others will perform at 5.30pm.

All Thursday and Friday events take place at Elvet Methodist Church, Old Elvet. Festival passes cost £24, or £18 for concessions.

On the final day, the Saturday, there will be a free outdoor concert featuring more than 200 performers in Millennium Place from 11am to 3pm.

The festival comes to an end with Eliza Carthy, Saul Rose and Sarah Hayes performing at the Old Cinema Launderette, Marshall Terrace, Gilesgate that evening. This concert is sold out.
