A RUNNING club’s 30th anniversary relay has raised more than £800 for charity.
Members of the 300-strong Elvet Striders club, based in Durham City, ran a 300-mile relay in aid of St Cuthbert’s Hospice and 4Louis, a bereavement charity, between Friday and Sunday (July 24-26).
Some runners did a relay northward along the Pennine Way from Edale in Derbyshire to Middleton-in-Teesdale, where they met the second team, who had run southward from Kirk Yetholm, in the Scottish Borders.
The final leg, on Sunday, was a relay into Durham, where the challenge finished on Palace Green in the shadow of Durham Cathedral.
Stephanie Piper, from the club, said: “It was absolutely fabulous. We came in on time and we didn’t have any major disasters.
“The rain was forecast for about 4pm and we came in just before it turned horrible.”
