A TEN-year-old motorcyclist is to race at the home of British motorsport, Silverstone, next month (August).

Jake Hopper will contest a junior race ahead of the 2015 British MotoGP in late August.

The Belmont Junior School pupil, who lives in Belmont, Durham City, has been competing in national road racing events for more than a year and, with around half of the season already gone, is currently leading the British Mini-Bike Road Racing Championship in his 50cc category.

Jake began riding aged six, with the Durham Police group Bikewise Mini-Bike Club. He now competes at a national level about once a month.

He has secured sponsorship from The Belmont pub in Belmont and Harrogate-based chartered building surveyors Bradley-Mason LLP.

His father, Andrew Hopper, said: “It helps a lot. We wouldn’t be able to do it without that support.

“We’re totally and utterly proud of him. It’s fantastic. He’s very excited about Silverstone.”
