SHOPPERS donated nearly 30,000 meals during a three-day Foodbank drive.

Customers at four Tesco stores across County Durham gave food totalling 28,838 meals during the County Durham Foodbank’s effort earlier this month (July).

Tesco will add 30 percent to all public donations.

Peter MacLellan, director of the County Durham Foodbank, said: “This was an amazing effort by Tesco store staff, customers and volunteers.

“The donations in this year’s summer Neighbourhood Food Collection will make a huge difference to the Foodbank’s ability to provide emergency food to people in need.

“We especially appreciate all the donations at this time of additional pressure on families during the summer school holiday months.

“I would like to say a special thank you to everyone at Tesco who helped to make this event such a success.”
