A MOTORCYCLE safety day has celebrated its 21st birthday by moving to a new ‘home’.
Durham Police’s ‘Bikewise’ event has been held today (Sunday, July 19) at the site of the new force headquarters at Aykley Heads, which opened for business last August.
Previous shows were staged on the site of the former HQ which is now earmarked for a housing development.
Attractions included Darlington-based stunt rider Dave Coates, Isle of Man TT legend John McGuinness, mountain bike display riders and a visit from the police helicopter.
Rock band Kimera provided entertainment and there was a display of skills from the police dog section.
The family fun event attracted thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts from around the region.
Sergeant Iain Rodgers said: "It went really well and everyone seems to have been having a really good time. There was a new layout this year which seems to have worked in our favour, so we are really pleased.
"There were some incredible displays and stunts which shows what you can do with the right training in the right environment. We were also putting out lots of subliminal messages about safety, which is what is al about after all."
