A DISPLAY of textiles will be on show at one of the region’s best-loved landmarks this month.

Looking Back, Going Forward is an exhibition by the Durham Guild of Spinners, Weavers and Dyers.

It is in the Galilee Chapel at Durham Cathedral from tomorrow (Saturday, July 4) until Thursday, July 30, and has been organised to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the guild.

Members will be around most days to demonstrate a variety of techniques for spinning yarns and weaving.

A family fun day is being held on Sunday July 12, from 10am-4pm, at the Durham World Heritage Site Visitor Centre on Owengate where people can come and try their hand at spinning and tapestry weaving as well as watch demonstrations.

Guild spokesman Angela Colbridge said: "The guild welcomes new members and are always very willing to teach these skills to anyone wanting to learn. As a member there is access to equipment, so no-one need to buy expensive equipment until they know this is for them.

"We also welcome anyone already spinning or weaving to join what is a very sociable group of people. We hold workshops and talks as can be seen on our website and also go out demonstrating at local events."
