A MULTI-storey car park is to close overnight from next month.

The 400-space Prince Bishops shopping centre car park, accessed off Leazes Bowl roundabout, in Durham City will be closed from midnight to 6am from Monday, June 15, it has been announced.

It was previously open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Bosses stress the ‘night owl’ tariff of £1.50 for parking from 6pm to 8pm is unaffected by the change.

Recently, the facility switched from chip coin-based payment to automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) technology.

Centre manager Richard Toynbee said: “This year has seen some major alterations to our car park including the introduction of ANPR technology.

“The foreseen changes to our opening hours will not affect night owl parking at Prince Bishops nor will they detract from the quality of service we provide.”

The costs at other times are £2.10 for up to two hours, £3.30 for two to four hours, £6.20 for four to six hours and £11.50 for more than six hours.
