A WEEKLY adults-only table tennis club is set to open.

A new club is being set up at Coxhoe Leisure Centre near Durham, run as a satellite of Bishop Auckland Table Tennis Club, every Wednesday evening.

Club chairman Matt Porter said: “Many clubs only offer coaching to young people and adults are left to their own devices.

“We wanted to look at creating a new opportunity for people aged 18 - 40 to get involved and enjoy playing table tennis.

“We feel we can get people playing in a social environment and highlight the different opportunity’s the club has to offer gradually though a social setting.”

The club is being set up with help from the sport’s governing body Table Tennis England.

Steve McFadyen, Clubs and Disability Officer at Table Tennis England, said “We are really looking forward to seeing how the sessions go and we wish the project every success.”

The sessions will be a mix of social play and casual coaching with use of a robot and multi-ball sessions can be easily be catered for individuals needs week to week.
