A CITY will step back in time for a nostalgia weekend over the Bank Holiday.

Durham will host 1940s entertainment, a vintage market, a display of military vehicles and more across Sunday and Monday (May 24-25).

Yesterday’s Heroes will present a “living history tableaux” and crooner Jay B will sing in the Market Place both days.

On Monday, the Echo 42 Big Band will perform and there will be military vehicles in Millennium Place.

There will be free arts and crafts for children in the Market Place on Sunday and Millennium Place on Monday.

The market stalls will be open each day from 11am to 4pm and Councillor John Robinson will visit the market on Monday in his last official engagement as Mayor of Durham.

Colin Wilkes, managing director of Durham Markets, said: “Durham’s Nostalgia Weekend is always one to pull in the crowds, with many dancing along to the 1940s style music. With vintage military vehicles, costumed performers, live music and an extensive market, there really is something for everyone and loads of reasons to visit Durham.

“It will be a pleasure to welcome Cllr John Robinson on his last official engagement too. We have enjoyed showing John and his wife around a number of different markets during his year as Mayor, and we are sure they will thoroughly enjoy the variety of the Nostalgia Weekend.”
