ENGLAND’S rugby world cup winning captain visited a school to inspire children to get active today (Wednesday, May 6).

Katy McLean, who plays fly half for Darlington Mowden Park Sharks and captained England to victory in the 2014 Rugby World Cup in France, dropped in at Blue Coat CofE Junior School, in Newton Hall, Durham City.

The former school teacher, who now plays rugby professionally, took pupils’ questions and talked about her sporting career.

She also officially launched the school’s new website, which can be seen at bluecoatcofejunior.co.uk

Headteacher Emma Roffe said most of the school’s year groups played rugby and the children were very keen to meet Ms McLean and ask her about her life.
