A DIOCESE has appointed a new director tasked with helping churches serve their communities.
The Reverend Sophie Jelley, previously a vicar in Burgess Hill, Sussex, has been made director of mission, discipleship and ministry in the Anglican Durham Diocese.
“I’m really excited about the opportunities that God brings,” she said.
“My job will be to oversee the process by which churches in the Durham Diocese can become more missional and most effectively serve their communities and best share the love of God with people.”
The Right Reverend Paul Butler, Bishop of Durham, said he was delighted at Rev Jelley’s appointment.
“The work she will lead and the focus she will give to developing and supporting mission, discipleship and ministry within the Diocese and the wider community is really important,” he added.
Rev Jelley became a Christian aged 14 and has been a parish priest for nearly 20 years. She is married with three children and will be installed in a Durham Cathedral service on Sunday (May 3).
