A CATHEDRAL is trying to get young people interested in museum work.

The Young Curators programme offers children aged 11 to 16 the chance to go behind the scenes at Durham Cathedral and learn more about its treasures and collections.

Charlotte Rowbotham, the cathedral’s head of education, said: “During Young Curator sessions, the young people will walk alongside cathedral staff, learning how to handle and display objects and interpret the cathedral’s magnificent collections.

“By engaging with young people in this way, Durham Cathedral can play its role in potentially ensuring there are quality curators, inspired by the cathedral’s treasures, for many years to come.”

Taster days will be held on May 28, June 27, July 21 and August 19 and the full programme will begin in September.
