DURHAM Students’ Union will host two parliamentary candidate debates, in Durham City and Stockton South on April 20-21

The debates have been developed in partnership with Durham Students’ Union, the Union’s Politics and International Relations Society, East Durham College Students’ Union, New College Durham and Stockton Riverside College.

The debates are designed to help students find out more about the different political parties who will be asking for their vote on May 7 at the forthcoming General Election.

Leigh Spanner, academic affairs officer, at Durham Students’ Union said: “For many of our students and the local college students, this will be their first time voting.

"We want to ensure they have an opportunity to find out more about the issues which will affect them. We will invite questions from students before the debate, which will be posed to the panel. Members of the audience will also have the opportunity to ask questions on the night.”

The debate in Durham City on April 20 will take place in the Students’ Union building, Dunelm House. The debate in Stockton South will take place on Queen’s Campus on April 21. Both will start at 7pm.

Durham University students can register for a free ticket on the Students’ Union website.

The debates are also open to members of the public. If you are interested in attending, please email info@durhamsu.com to reserve a ticket.
