PORTRAIT photographs of two local luminaries have been added to a touring exhibition.

London-based photographer Dee King opened her exhibition of portraits of men, titled All The King's Men, in an empty shop at The Gates shopping centre, Durham, last week.

Now she has added two North-East figures to the show - Keith Bartlett and Arthur Lockyear.

Dr Bartlett is director of culture at Durham University and chair of Durham's Business Improvement District and was the driving force behind the 2013 Lindisfarne Gospels exhibition in Durham.

Mr Lockyear is a former firefighter, Aikido expert and organiser of Sunderland's Remembrance Parade.

Ms King said: "I'm delighted to be including these two amazing Durham men as part of All The King's Men.

"Both embrace the passion and spirit of all the subjects I've included within the exhibition.

"I've loved bringing my work to this beautiful city and it will be great to bring a bit of Durham along with me as my journey continues."

Dr Bartlett said: “I’m used to having my picture taken, but working with Dee was a really unique experience.

"She wanted to find the real me for this portrait, and so we had fun in different Durham locations, trying to capture the authentic shot.”

Mr Lockyear said: "I’m proud to be representing Durham as part of All The King’s Men as it continues to travel across the country.

"It was a real experience having my picture taken by Dee, and it’s great to see the portrait in the flesh.”

The exhibition will be at The Gates until Wednesday, April 8. It is open for free from noon to 5pm, except Easter Sunday.
