A CHOIR founded to welcome the Lindisfarne Gospels back to the North-East is reforming for a special Holocaust memorial show – and looking for new voices.
The 30-strong choir, established when the Gospels were loaned back to Durham in 2013, will take part in InterOpera’s Darkness to Light concert, marking the 70th anniversary of the Durham Light Infantry liberating the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp.
The first rehearsal has already taken place, but leaders are also looking for up to 20 new members.
The Durham Cathedral concert, on Saturday, April 18, will also feature survivors’ stories, classical music by Beethoven and Puccini and a new piece by Durham-born composer Will Todd.
To join the choir, call 07802 603008 or email jill.cole2008@gmail.com
Darkness to Light starts at 8pm. Tickets are priced £8 to £22. To book, call 03000 266600 or visit galadurham.co.uk
The show had been in doubt after the Arts Council rejected a £35,000 funding bid.
Organisers decided to press ahead, but are looking for public support. To make a donation, visit interopera.org
