A CATHEDRAL shop has received the blessing of historian Dan Snow.

The BBC broadcaster was presiding at the 2015 Hudson's Heritage Awards at Goldsmith's Hall in London, where Durham Cathedral was up for three prizes.

The cathedral shop was highly commended in the best shopping category, the Lego cathedral model was shortlisted for best innovation and the Undercroft Restaurant was shortlisted for the best eating out award.

Vanessa Ward, the cathedral's business support manager, said it was a proud moment.

"We have worked extremely hard over the last few years to create a shop befitting our wonderful cathedral and thanks to the Heritage Lottery funded Open Treasure project we have been able to showcase our fabulous monastic undercroft with the installation of both our shop and restaurant.

"Our beautiful shop is a showcase for both local talent and some of the finest craftsmanship from around the world and we are proud not only of our gift and souvenir collection but also that we offer the best range of theological texts in the North-East of England."
