A WOMAN whose bipolar disorder made her an online sensation has won the Deputy Prime Minister’s mental health award.

Sharon Sutton, whose Facebook page Me, Bipolar and I has almost 10,000 likes, is one of around 40 winners of the Halo award.

Ms Sutton, 31, of Bowburn, County Durham, picked up the prize from Nick Clegg at Whitehall last week (Thursday, February 5).

She said: “It was unbelievable. I was ecstastic.

“I’m really lucky to get it.”

Ms Sutton, a mother-of-two, has suffered from mental health issues all her life and was diagnosed with biopolar disorder in September 2013.

She now speaks about the condition publicly and supports others with mental health issues.

The Facebook page has become an international success, winning recognition from the International Bipolar Foundation in the US.

“If I can get better, then so can anyone, no matter how long it takes,” she said.
