THE Gala Theatre is hosting a range of family-friendly entertainment during the school half-term holiday.

The Snail and the Whale will be at the Durham City venue on Friday, February 13, and Saturday, February 14, and a production of Treasure Island will be screened on Wednesday, February 18.

The Snail and the Whale is described as interactive theatre, with story-telling, music and comedy.

It is based on a book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler and is aimed at children aged four to ten.

There are shows at 5pm on the Friday and 11am and 1.30pm on the Saturday. Tickets are £10 each, or £36 for families.

Treasure Island will be screened live from London’s National Theatre as part of the NT Live project.

Robert Louis Stephenson’s classic tale has been adapted by Bryony Lavery and stars Arthur Davill, who has appeared in Doctor Who as Rory and Broadchurch.

The show is recommended for ages ten and up.

The screening is at 2pm and tickets are priced £13 to £15, or £20 for families.
