AN AMATEUR dramatics group returns to the stage this weekend (Sunday, February 1).

Members of Durham Dramatic Society will present Entertaining Angels at the City Theatre, off Fowlers Yard, Durham City, from February 1 to 7.

The Richard Everett play, premiered at the Chichester Festival in 2009, follows Grace, a vicar’s widow, as she enjoys her newfound freedom.

But the return of her eccentric missionary sister, Ruth, and other events force her to confront the truth of her marriage.

The production is produced by Teresa Hagger and features Helen Harries as Grace, Kate Lawrie as Ruth, Caroline Chapman as Jo, Jayne Stopford-Taylor as Sarah and John McKinnell as Bardolph.

There are shows at 2.30pm on Sunday and 7.30pm Monday to Saturday.

Tickets are £6.50 for adults and £5.50 for concessions. To book, visit galadurham.co.uk

Last year, the Durham Dramatic Society, which was founded in 1924, presented The Odd Couple, Arsenic and Old Lace, Heroes, Rope and Our House.

The City Theatre is one of the smallest theatres in the country, with just 71 seats.
