SHOPPERS can get the best locally produced food and drink for the Christmas table as a farmers’ market returns tomorrow (Thursday, December 18).

The monthly Farmers’ Market in Durham Market Place returns from 9am with a special festive theme.

In addition to the usual fresh vegetables, meat, fish, bread, cakes, cheeses and beers, there will be Christmas wreaths, cards and gifts.

Colin Wilkes, managing director of Durham Markets Company, said: “There is a growing passion for locally produced food and the Farmers’ Market is the ideal opportunity to shop for just this.

“You can meet and speak with the producers and pick up exactly what you want to serve on Christmas Day.

“The festive Farmers’ Market is always a real highlight in the run up to Christmas and it’s well worth turning up bright and early as we normally have a long queue for the Brussels sprouts.”
