TWO visitor attractions are offering free entry over the Christmas period.

Durham University’s Palace Green Library will be open free of charge from Saturday, December 27, to New Year’s Day and the Durham Light Infantry (DLI) Museum and Durham Art Gallery will be free to enter on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

Visitors to Palace Green Library, on Palace Green, Durham, can tour the Books for Boys exhibition, a display of pre-First World War children’s books, magazines and artefacts.

The exhibition explores the cultural landscape in the decades before the First World War, focusing particularly on the influence of books in shaping the world view of the young men of the time with tales of adventure and patriotism.

Exhibitions officer Julie Biddlecombe Brown said: “We’re delighted to be able to offer free entry between Christmas and New Year.

“From Conan-Doyle to Kipling and from Wodehouse to Wells, Books for Boys is a must for anyone who enjoys reading.”

The library is open for free admission from December 27 to 31, from 10am to 5pm on the Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday, noon to 5pm on Monday and 10am to 4pm on New Year’s Eve. For further details, visit durham.ac.uk/palace.green or call 0191-334-2932.
