COLOURFUL characters brought a festive feel to the streets of a North-East city centre.

Seasonal entertainment came to Durham City, bringing the historic streets to life for shoppers.

Mr Scratchit and Mr Scrooge arrived on their carol singing carriage on Saturday with Winter Rose, the ancient wayfarer puppet, sharing yuletide cheer.

Festive Foxley rode through the streets on his Penny Farthing performing magic tricks while The Christmas Waiters brought giant Christmas puddings, magic floating glasses and napkin origami.

Hugh Fern and Lee Whittingstall and their mobile, musical Christmas kitchen, the Liver Cottage Café, offered dozens of tasty top tips.

Today, (Sunday, December 14) Fagin and the Artful Dodger continued the Dickensian theme, charming passers by, joined by cockney barrow boys Kenny and Ronnie.
