A VILLAGE cafe is hosting the first solo exhibition of a local artist.

Cafe Number 4, in Old Co-op Buildings, Langley Park, is the venue for a three-week display by Sue Humphrey, of Cornsay, who has more than 40 pieces on show.

Mrs Humphrey, who studied Fine Art at Newcastle University, specialises in landscapes and street scenes and works in watercolours and acrylics.

She has had individual items displayed before but never had an entire exhibition.

The cafe, which has been open for a year, alsi had a gift shop.

Cafe manager Tracey Russell said: “This is something we want to do on a regular basis in the future, providing something for the community and surrounding area.

“We are a bit short of art galleries in the vicinity.

“We wanted to try this in the cafe so she is our guinea pig in some respects . It is a great thing for her to have her first solo art exhibition.”

A private viewing for family and friends was held last Friday night (November 21) and then the exhibition opened the following day (Saturday, November 22) and until Friday, December 12.

It is open seven days a week between 9am and 4pm and admission is free.
