A CARNEGIE Medal-winning author dropped in at a North-East school today (Friday, October 17).
Kevin Brooks, best known for his novels for young adults such as Martyn Pig and the Carnegie Medal-winning The Bunker Diary, met pupils at St Leonard’s RC School, in Durham City.
He chatted with the youngsters, answered questions, talked about and read from his work and signed copies of his books.
The school has a group which shadows the Carnegie Medal judging process, reading all the shortlisted works, and its members also picked The Bunker Diary as the best of the bunch.
Librarian Emma Waldock said it was a great privilege to have Mr Brooks in school.
The Exeter-born author was in Durham for the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals’ Youth Libraries Group annual conference, aimed at getting more young people reading for pleasure.
His visit also coincides with the Durham Book Festival, which ends on Monday (October 20).
This weekend, there will be events with Michael Chaplin, Stuart Maconie and others.
