TOURISM chiefs are trying to tempt hungry London commuters to the region for a foodie holiday.

Tourism agency Visit County Durham has paid for posters showing Durham Cathedral and the dales to appear on the London Underground, under the strapline: “This is delicious. This is Durham.”

There have also been posters at Edinburgh Waverley and Manchester Piccadilly railway stations and adverts in national newspapers.

Melanie Sensicle, chief executive of Visit County Durham, said: “These really fantastic images of Durham that we are using are intended to show people that you can enjoy wonderful food in spectacular settings across the county.

“Food and drink is a big part of what makes Durham and a short break in the county so special and this campaign will draw that mix of wonderful ingredients to the attention of a national audience.”
