A COUNTY is hosting its biggest ever Scout event this weekend (October 10-12).

The Durham Scout County’s annual Confido camp is expected to attract a record 1,200 young people and adult leaders to Moor House Adventure Centre, near West Rainton.

There will be more than 50 activities on offer, including tomahawk throwing, Segway safari, night climbing, archery, backwoods cooking and a Free Drop Tower where Scouts can jump from a 10m platform into a giant airbag.

On the Saturday night, there will be a huge movies-themed party with live music, competitions and a silent disco.

James Turnbull, 13, from Washington, on Wearside, said: “Confido is one of my favourite Scout events because it’s a great chance to make new friends, there’s loads of activities to try and this year I can’t wait to experience the Free Drop Tower. It sounds amazing.

“I’m also looking forward to the Saturday party. Moor House Adventure Centre is going to look incredible with over 1,200 film stars on site.”

The event is designed to give young people the chance to challenge themselves and depends on 200 adult volunteers.
