YOUNG actors will pay tribute to fallen soldiers during a day of events commemorating the First World War.

Members of Enter CIC theatre group aged four to 25 will present extracts from Home Fires, a new musical about wartime at the front and at home, in Durham on Saturday (September 13).

The performance takes place on Palace Green between 3pm and 4.30pm.

Meanwhile, broadcaster Kate Adie will talk about the legacy of women in the war and sign books at 2pm and visitors can have their memorabilia and collectibles valued by Anderson and Garland experts from 10.30am to 2.30pm.

Pittington Brass Band will perform between 11.30am and 1.30pm and there will be exhibitions and displays from the Durham County Record Office, the DLI Museum and Durham Art Gallery, Durham University, Beamish Museum and The Bowes Museum.

A marquee on Palace Green hosting these activities will be open from 10.30am to 5pm.

The day precedes the unveiling of a new DLI memorial in the Market Place from 10am on Sunday (September 14).

This ceremony will be broadcast live in the marquee, which on the Sunday will be open from 9am to 3pm.
