DETAILS have emerged of a second crash where a young couple had a miraculous escape at the weekend.
Jamie Espin and Andrea Hall are calling for extra safety measures after they were involved in a crash on Lady’s Piece Lane, near Pittington, County Durham, in the early hours of Sunday morning (August 17).
Afterwards, Durham County Council said accidents on the stretch were rare.
But Paul Rochester, of Darlington, said he had an accident at the same spot on Friday, August 1, at about 1.45pm.
The self-employed gas service engineer was driving from Stanley to a job in Sherburn Village when he hit a patch of diesel and lost control of his Toyota Hiace.
The van skidded and rolled down an embankment, turning over twice.
Mr Rochester, 63, suffered neck, shoulder and head injuries and much of his equipment was ruined.
“I thought I was a gonner,” he said.
