ORGANISERS of a popular light festival are appealing for sponsors.

Durham County Council has already pledged £500,000 in cash, plus £100,000 of in-kind support, to help stage a fourth Lumiere in Durham City in November 2015.

The Arts Council England has also committed £500,000.

Now the council and festival producers Artichoke are looking for sponsors to make up the remaining £700,000 of the expected £1.7m budget.

Artichoke director Helen Marriage said she was thrilled at returning to Durham for Lumiere 2015.

“We’ve worked hand-in-hand with the county council and forged ever-closer links with our partners with each Lumiere festival.

“I’m confident that with the council’s support, we will be able to build on these relationships with local partners and sponsors to help us make Lumiere a reality for 2015.”

Durham County Council leader Simon Henig said: “Lumiere has put Durham firmly on the world map and has become our signature event.

“I would like to encourage organisations throughout our area to help us to make up the remaining funds needed to deliver this fantastic event again.”
