BIKERS from across the region have taken part in the 20th anniversary of an event to promote motorcycle safety.

The annual Bikewise event was held at Durham Police Headquarters, Aykley Heads in Durham City today. (Sunday, July 20)

The attractions this year included demonstrations from Dave Coates Stunt Show and Paul Swift from Precision Driving.

TT Legend John McGuinness, just back from winning his 21st TT at the Isle of Man, was there chatting to riders with musical entertainment Kimera and Scotland’s leading tribal band ‘Clann An Drumma’.

Bike officers were on hand promoting road safety and cycle safety sessions were led by the 3SIXTY Stunt Bike Team.

There were also displays from the police dog section, the police helicopter as well as stunt teams and individual riders showing off their skills.

A spokeswoman for Durham Police said more than 10,000 people had attended.

She said: “It has been really good. The place has been packed out.

“There has been a fantastic family atmosphere and the children have been having a wonderful time.

“The biking community have been enjoying it and there is everyone from tiny little babies right up to old age pensioners.”
