DURHAM has been showing off its efforts to judges from the region’s biggest gardening contest.

Northumbria in Bloom judges were in the city today (Wednesday, April 23), visiting Low Burnhall, St Cuthbert’s Hospice, Durham Cathedral’s woodlands and riverbanks, the Market Place, North Road, St Margaret’s Allotments, the railway station and the Durham Light Infantry Museum.

They also went to Gilesgate and the Botanic Garden.

The award winners will be announced later this year.

Last year, Durham won the Best Large Town prize. The overall winner was Sedgefield.
