AN ARTS chief will attempt a staggering charity challenge this weekend (Saturday, April 26).

Martin Wilson, executive director of Durham-based not-for-profit outfit Tin Arts, hopes to complete a 200km duathlon in just 12 hours on Saturday.

The 42-year-old, from Cassop, near Durham, has set himself the challenge of completing a loop including a 40km bike ride and 10km run four times over.

Not only that, the route will take in some of the most hilly parts of County Durham.

Mr Wilson, chairman of Durham Triathlon Club, will leave at Framwellgate Moor Community Centre, Durham, at 7am to cycle to Tow Law and back, before undertaking a 10km around Durham City.

He hopes to complete one loop every three hours.

The challenge is in aid of the Children’s Heart Unit Fund (Chuf), which raises money for the children’s heart unit at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle.

Mr Wilson said: “This is a big task, but one I’m determined to complete.

“Chuf does amazing things for so many children and their families in this region and beyond.

“It’s a nice feeling to know that even by raising just a few pounds, you can help the lives of so many.”
