ASPIRING family historians can get tips on researching their ancestors.

Durham County Record Office is running four family history courses during May and June.

Dawn Layland, an education and outreach activist, said: “This is a really good chance, not only to get started on your family tree, but to learn how to use the sources we have here.

“You will find out things like how to locate the microfilm you need as well as how to use the information you find from it.”

Each course will consist of three, two-hour sessions.

They will take place on: May 8, 15 and 22 from 9.30am to 11.30am; May 6, 13 and 20 from 6pm to 8pm; June 19 and 26 and July 3 from 9.30am to 11.30am; and June 16, 23 and 30 from 6pm to 8pm.

A record office archivist will attend each session.

Places must be reserved in advance and cost £25 each.
