A LANTERN procession to Durham Cathedral will take place on New Year’s Eve.
Durham Churches Together’s annual procession will leave Durham Market Place at 6pm, reaching the Cathedral for a service at 6.30pm.
The service will be a time of reflection on the past year, thanksgiving and prayer for the present and future.
On New Year’s Day, the Cathedral will host a prayer labyrinth.
Between 1pm and 3pm, visitors are invited to walk its winding route slowly, praying and meditating as they go.
Canon Rosalind Brown said: “Over the centuries people have discovered that walking a labyrinth slowly and meditatively is a helpful way of praying, even if they do not usually pray much.
“We hope that many people will try this as a different way of beginning the New Year.”
