CAMPAIGNERS worried about what they see as the privatisation of the NHS held a rally in the region at the weekend (Saturday, November 23).

The 999 Call For The NHS forum attracted speakers including Labour’s shadow health minister Debbie Abrahams, Green Party leader Natalie Bennett, Keep Our NHS Public campaigner Dr Jacky Davis and Rehana Azam, from Darlington.

More than 100 people attended the event, held in Durham Town Hall on Saturday.

Mrs Azam said: “We were looking to bring together various groups from across the North-East so we can join forces and the main message consistently was the NHS is under attack and we need to do what we can to raise awareness and keep the NHS public.”

Further campaign events are now being planned.
