SEVEN North-East gymnasts will represent their country in a world championship next week.

The tumblers from Deerness Gymnastics Academy, based in Ushaw Moor, County Durham, will be part of the Great Britain team at the World Age Group Championships in Bulgaria, which runs from November 14 to 17.

The seven are: David Richardson, of Durham; Samuel Stafford, of Witton Gilbert; Alexandra Richardson, of Consett; Shanice Davidson, of Washington; Rachel Davies, of Langley Park; Georgia Clayton, of Spennymoor; and Steven Gilmore, of Jarrow.

Deerness gymnasts make up a quarter of the squad and the club’s head of tumbling, Glen Wharton, is part of the coaching team.
