DEMOLITION of a much-loved former ice rink is continuing in a city centre.

Workers moved in to start dismantling Durham Wasps’ old rink, off Freeman’s Place, earlier this month.

Much of the building has now been knocked down.

The rink, which has stood idle since it was last used as a bowling alley in 2009, is to make way for the £27m Durham Riverside Renewal Project, which includes offices, a visitor centre and a cafe.

The site’s redevelopment will create or protect up to 800 jobs.
