A CONGREGATION in the North-East is this evening, Sunday December 16, taking part in a world record attempt for the most people singing the same Christmas carols at the same time.

For fifteen minutes, from 7pm, St Margaret’s Church, on Crossgate, in Durham, will be joining Premier Christian Radio record bid.

Last Christmas 18,100 people in churches and venues helped to smash the Guinness World Carol Singing Record beating the existing record of 15,000 set in 2009 by Disney.

It is hoped 25,000 people will take part around the globe.

Church warden Sue Lyons said: “It is a bit of fun really. It is a short attempt and thought it would be an ideal opportunity for people in our congregation to invite family and friends who do not normally come to St Margaret’s to join in.”

The carols are Silent Night, O Come All Ye Faithful, O Little Town of Bethlehem, Away in Manger and Hark the Herald Angels Sing.
