BIRDS of prey, a petting zoo and a bigger market are just some of the additions to a community music festival.

Thousands of people are expected to Consett Festival, which features a weekend of live music from local bands and family fun activities.

As well as children’s rides, and inflatables, there will a motorbike show craft workshops and cosplayers, along with hot food and drinks available through the weekend.

It is being staged at Consett Football Club from Friday to Sunday, June 1 to 3, and is in aid Macmillan Cancer Support.

Organiser Brad Wilkinson, who is from Consett, and launched the annual event in 2013, said: “A family member has been affected by cancer so this is a charity close to my own heart.

“We have got a winning formula now at the festival and for the last couple of years we have not changed a great deal. It just seems to work well.

“Everything is sorted now and we are hoping for some decent weather.

“Fingers crossed we will get some sun.”

One Eyed Jack is headlining in the main marquee, with Ladykillers reforming, especially for the festival.

Other acts include Oily Bum Print, Savana, Fallen Mafia, Conner Middleton and The Cairds.

Mr Wilkinson said: “With the tickets are selling well, so early we think it is going to be well attended again. We regularly have 3,000 and think we have cracked it in terms of numbers.”

Entry on the gate, for adults and children, is: Friday £3/£2, Saturday £8/£4 and Sunday £5/£3. To book visit consettfestival.co.uk or call 07508-914-114.
