A SCAFFOLD company boss has been spared prison for kicking a bouncer in the head during a brawl.
Shaun Keers, 57, broke the doorman’s jaw in two places when he attacked him outside Missoula in Durham after he tried to restrain his stepson.
Durham Crown Court heard the man was left with a bleed on the brain, amnesia, damage to his jaw, teeth and gums and needed to spend three days in hospital.
Prosecuting, Christopher Baker said: “A witness said she saw the defendant kick the victim to the head as though it was a football.”
The incident happened on May 28 last year and Keers, of Front Street, Burnhope, pleaded guilty to a section 20 assault at a previous hearing.
Mitigating, David Lamb said: “He knows he has done wrong and his remorse is genuine.”
Recorder Tahir Khan sentenced him to two years in prison, suspended for two years, 200 hours unpaid community work and ordered him to pay £1,200 in costs and £2,000 in compensation to the victim.
