A GREAT grandmother has become the latest centenarian in the North-East.
Gwen Weston was born on April 2, 1918, in Ebchester, County Durham, to Edward and Mary Cheeseman.
She served with the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force during the Second World War and married RAF air crew member, Robert Weston, who came back from Iceland for their wedding, in 1943.
Mrs Weston worked in shops while her husband was a stock taker at Consett Iron Company.
The couple had two sons, two grandsons and Mrs Weston, who lives at St Mary’s Convent Residential Home in Ebchester, is great grandmother to six-month-old Louie George.
Her son, David, said: “She is pleased, but says it is just another day.”
