FRIENDSHIPS have been formed between the generations at an inspiring project held in Lanchester.

Karbon Homes’ Ageless Project brings together young and old people to increase understanding between people of different ages.

The ten-week project linked up a retirement community with a school to allow discussion of a wide range of topics to increase understanding, challenge preconceptions, raise knowledge and establishing friendships.

Students from St Bede’s Catholic School and Sixth Form College visited Lynwood House and talked to residents about money, jobs, housing, relationships, food and IT.

Resident John Cook said: “There is a preconception that teenagers are trouble but the pupils who came to visit us were hard working, polite and very interested in what we had to tell them.”

A celebration event was held at Lynwood House earlier this week where the pupils and residents were presented with certificates and reflected on what they had learned.

Sixth-form pupil Beth Gibbon, 16, from Stanley said: “We’re going to keep in touch and try and get everyone together and organise a bingo night.”
