STAFF and pupils at a school are celebrating after half of all its candidates attained good GCSE passes in English and Mathematics.

Among the top performing students at Consett Academy were Chloe Walker, who achieved Grade 9 in both English and Maths and eight A*-A grades across her other subjects.

James Tatton got a Grade 8 in both English and Maths and seven A*-A across his other subjects, while Samuel Toal, achieved Grade 8 in both English and Maths and six A*-A across his other subjects.

Executive principal Kevin Reynolds, said: “This has been a particularly tough year for the students, having to come to terms with the challenging new courses in English and Mathematics.

“Students have worked hard to gain the success they deserve”.

Consett Academy’s Sixth Form will be holding an open evening on Thursday, September 21 at 6pm for any Year 11 students who are interested in joining the Sixth Form.
