DRIVERS are being warned to expect delays as four weeks of work to upgrade the gas supply gets underway.

Northern Gas Networks is upgrading the ageing metal gas pipes on Howden Bank, commonly known as Maiden Law Bank, between Greencroft and Lanchester.

Around 250 metres of metal gas mains will be replaced with more durable plastic pipes.

Work is due to start on Monday, August 14, with two-way traffic lights in place at the bottom of the bank between Fenhall Lodge and Ornsby Hill House for the duration of the works.

The gas company says it expects some delays to journies and motorists are advised to leave extra time for travel.

Site manager Shaun Williams said: “We have been working closely with the local council to carefully plan these works and will be doing all we can to minimise any disruption to customers.

“We would like to take this opportunity to apologise for any inconvenience this essential work may cause and thank customers for their patience and support in getting the project completed as safely and quickly as possible.”
