AN historic church has organised a duck race to raise funds to repair its roof.
St Cuthbert’s Church in Shotley Bridge has organised a string of fund-raising events to bring in cash for the cause.
The latest is a duck race due to be held at The Spa cricket ground on Sunday, July 30 which it is hoped will raise £500 for the appeal.
The event takes place from 2pm to 5pm and as well as the racing ducks, there will be events for children, a tombola, a bar and free parking.
Organiser Linda Short said: “There may be a few £1 tickets available to buy a racing duck, but the main thing is that people come along and enjoy the event.”
The first three ducks home will win £20, £15, and £10 respectively for their lucky “owners and trainers”.
