A COUNTRY show’s revival continued at the weekend as the sun brought out a “bumper” attendance.

Car parks were overflowing at Sunday’s Lanchester Agricultural Show in County Durham, which appeared to offer something for all, whether country-dwellers or townsfolk.

Show president Sean Kell said it was “onwards and upwards”, for an event which appeared on its feet after previous cancellations, waterlogged by the wet weather and due to the food-and-mouth disease.

“It’s been phenomenal. While we haven’t had chance to tally up the figures, I can say it’s been a bumper turn-out.

“We had to close one car park and move to an overflow far quicker than expected.

“The animal shows appeared to have gone down very well, with some good levels of participation, and the industrial section was also popular, in part thanks to the presence of our guest judge, the children’s author Terry Deary.

“All in all, I would say it’s the biggest show we’ve had in the last few years, since we brought what was a dying show back from the brink.

“It had just become simply a horse show and now there’s a real selection of animals across the board.”

Mr Kell hopes it can now go from strength to strength.
