A COMMUNITY theatre group is rehearsing for its latest musical production.

The CBS Theatre Group, based in Consett, is staging Sister Act at the Empire Theatre in Consett this summer.

Rebecca Ramsden, 24, from Spennymoor, is taking on the role of Deloris Van Cartier, who was played by Whoopi Goldberg in the film.

She is currently at Sunderland University for a BA Honours in Dance, and is planning a career teaching performance and dance.

Miss Ransden has been performing since she was three years old and has taken principal roles in many musicals including Les Miserables, Chicago, Fame and Oliver.

Miss Ramsden said: “I am so happy to be playing this role. The show is so lively and uplifting you can’t help dance and sing along.”

The show begins on July 3 and there are performances at 7.15pm each evening until Saturday, July 8 with a 2.15pm matinee that day.

Virginia Aken who is directing the show said: “This is a wonderful show that will have you laughing, singing and crying all at the same time.
