PUPILS from a primary school planted spring bulbs and flowers to brighten up a new housing estate.

A group of 14 Year Three children from The Grove Primary School, near Consett, visited the Story Homes’ development The Woodlands, in Shotley Bridge, to work with the housebuilder’s landscape gardeners, learning about spring planting.

Class teacher Charlotte Walton said: “We have worked with Story Homes on a number of projects now, so it was great to be able to take the children to site.

“They planted so many bulbs and hardly lifted their heads for an hour.

“They thought it was amazing and took home some stones as souvenirs.”

The children have previously grown some of the plants being used on the new development.

Paul Tate, assistant site manager at The Woodlands, said: “In the past we have donated rocks and materials from site to help with their experiments in the classroom.

“When we heard that they were learning about plants, we thought it would great to get the children on the site and have some first-hand experience planting bulbs and flowers.

“I’m sure the residents at The Woodlands will be delighted”.
